The Carrollton Farmers Market is open for the season, drawing a strong turnout of vendors and customers as it gets underway for the year.

The market is located in the Dollar General parking lot at 1305 Canton Road NW in Carrollton and operates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.

Organizers estimated around 43 vendors are participating this season, offering a wide variety of goods and drawing steady traffic as visitors browse booths, shop and talk with vendors.

The market features a range of locally produced and handmade items, including fresh produce, meats and honey, along with baked goods, flowers and plants. Vendors also offer crafts, homemade wooden items, body care products, food truck fare and more throughout the season.

Doug Hood, a longtime vendor and former president of the Carrollton Farmers Market, stands at his booth featuring honey, soaps and other handmade items during the market’s opening week in Carrollton.

The market has deep roots in the community, dating back to 1989. Former president Doug Hood said the market has grown and adapted over the years while maintaining its local focus.

“We were a farmers market before farmers markets were cool,” Hood said.

Over the years, the market has operated at several locations, including near the former Ponderosa restaurant and other sites, before settling at its current location, where it has been for nearly two decades.

Dave Geiser, current president of the Carrollton Farmers Market, said the group continues to operate through cooperation among vendors.

“Most everybody’s easy to get along with, and we all kind of work together as a family here,” Geiser said. “Everybody pretty much helps out, and we work together. It works.”

Geiser added that the market offers something for a wide range of visitors, whether they are looking for fresh food, unique handmade items or simply a place to spend time in the community.

Hood said the market remains an important gathering place for the community.

“It’s a prime example of a community coming together,” he said. “We want it to be a place for people to come.”

Longtime vendors continue to be a key part of the market’s success, with some participating for decades.

“I love the market,” Hood said. “When I come here, everybody is my friend.”

Joanna Owen, a longtime vendor, said the market continues to draw regular visitors each week.

“It’s a wonderful market. A lot of people come out here just to walk up and down and see what we have,” Owen said.

Vendors offer a range of items throughout the season, with fresh produce becoming more available as the growing season progresses.

The market runs through the last Saturday in October.

Organizers noted that while the market has been a fixture in the community for decades, some residents may not realize it remains active.
