Free film event planned in Minerva for America 250 observance
‘The American Miracle’ to be shown May 17 at Roxy Theater
The Minerva America 250 Committee will host a free community event May 17 at the Roxy Theater as part of local efforts leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. with a showing of "The American Miracle" at the Roxy Theater, 114 N. Market St. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted to help support future America 250 activities in the community.
Following the film, organizers will host a brief program featuring patriotic songs and a time of prayer.
The event is being held in connection with a national gathering planned the same day on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where participants will take part in Scripture readings, testimonies and prayer as part of preparations for the country’s 250th birthday.
According to organizers, "The American Miracle" explores lesser-known stories from the nation’s founding, highlighting events and circumstances they say demonstrate unlikely or extraordinary outcomes during the American Revolution and early history.
The film includes accounts involving George Washington and key moments during the war, along with other historical developments that contributed to the nation’s founding.
Organizers said the local event is intended to give residents an opportunity to reflect on the country’s history and take part in the broader anniversary observance.
