Minerva High School graduates earn $178,800 in scholarships
Honors Night May 4, recognized academic achievement, leadership and community involvement
Scholarships totaling $178,800 were awarded to Minerva High School graduates during Honors Night May 4, recognizing academic achievement, leadership and community involvement.
Among the largest awards were the Dr. Richard Grunder Scholarships, totaling $48,605, presented in honor of his parents, John A. Grunder Jr. and Ruth A. Grunder. Recipients were Kaden Almasy, Grace Angione, Madalynn Bartley, Brett Bennett, Enoch Brodzenski, Evelyn Bryan, Kamryn Colvin, Makayla Gill, Rowen Hoffee, Makenna Jones, Ireland Kirkpatrick, Skyler Lab, Emily Lautzenheiser, Kyleigh Lippincott, Megan Lynn, Madison McGeorge, Tyler Phillips, Layna Sanor, Owen Shick, Rainique Simmons, Macy Stowe, McKenzye Talkington, Autumn Thompson, Danika Wagner, Lanae Walter, Rachel Weaver, Ezekiel Wengerd, Bailey Wood, Sydney Wyss and Owen Yoder.
The Dr. S.L. Weir and Mrs. Weir Nursing Scholarships, seven awards of $1,500 each, were presented to Hannah Kirkpatrick, Ireland Kirkpatrick, Layna Sanor, Danika Wagner, Lanae Sanor, Keegan Shingleton and Sydney Wyss.
The Minerva Strong Scholarships, given in memory of A’liya Hancock, Storm Angione and Savannah Russell, included two $2,200 awards to Nathaniel Linkous and Rachel Weaver and six $400 awards to Julian Elliott, Hannah Kirkpatrick, Emily Lautzenheiser, Macy Stowe, Autumn Thompson and Danika Wagner.
Rachel Weaver and Braydon Wood each received $5,000 Jim and Marj Lamb Kick Start Scholarships.
The Minerva Mission Community Service Scholarships, awarded in partnership with the MHS Class of 1963 and in memory of Lynn Molen, included two $2,500 awards to Rachel Weaver and Rainique Simmons, two $500 awards to Evelyn Bryan and Macy Stowe and a $1,000 award to Genevieve Galarneau.
The Enos “Red” and Ruth Jamison Scholarships, 10 awards of $1,295, were presented to Hannah Kirkpatrick, Skyler Lab, Megan Lynn, Keegan Shingleton, McKenzye Talkington, Autumn Thompson, Rachel Weaver, Bailey Wood, Braydon Wood and Owen Yoder.
Department awards included a $100 Science Department Scholarship to Owen Yoder, a $200 English Department Scholarship to Ariana Drake, a $100 Social Studies Department Award to Enoch Brodzenski, a $100 Math Department Scholarship to Braydon Wood and a $100 Calculus I Award to Owen Yoder.
Additional major scholarships included the Bob Gallina and Mary Gallina Brigham Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) to Rachel Weaver; the Douglas Birks Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) to Weaver; the Eric T. Eddy Memorial Scholarship ($500) to Autumn Thompson; the Larry P. Gram Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) to Owen Yoder; the Jim and Linda Crouse Engineering Scholarship ($3,000) to Yoder; and the Dallas Rose and Earnest H. Lutz Memorial Scholarship ($2,500) to Hannah Kirkpatrick.
Ava Burman Memorial Scholarships included two $500 awards to Danika Wagner and Lanae Walter and four $250 awards to Makenna Jones, Kyleigh Lippincott, Tyler Phillips and Emily Lautzenheiser.
The Ruth Betz/Granger Family Art Scholarship awarded $500 to Bailey Wood and $250 to Makenna Jones, while the Joe and Lee Deagan Memorial Scholarship ($550) went to Layna Sanor.
The Drakulich Family Scholarships, three $500 awards, were presented to Skyler Lab, Enoch Brodzenski and Megan Lynn.
The Romain and Geraldine Fry Memorial Scholarships included one $1,600 award to Owen Shick and two $2,000 awards to Ireland Kirkpatrick and Megan Lynn.
The Carl and Martha Gartner Memorial Scholarships, two $1,000 awards, went to Macy Stowe and McKenzye Talkington. Bud and June Hoopes Memorial Scholarships, two $500 awards, were presented to Evelyn Bryan and Rachel Weaver, while the Jack and Liberta Klippert Memorial Scholarship ($500) was awarded to Kaden Almasy.
Ray Meadows received the $2,500 R.C. Miller Scholarship, Madalynn Bartley received the $1,000 Paula Nape Memorial Scholarship and Bailey Wood received the $685 Dr. Sam and Irene Weir Memorial Scholarship. Rachel Weaver also received the $500 Tom and Kelly Wolf Memorial Scholarship.
Students in music and performing arts were recognized through the Dr. John H. Shaffer Scholarships for Minerva band members, sponsored by Larry and Suzy Seidel, along with the Patrick S. Gilmore Awards, three $1,000 awards presented to David Bryan, Evelyn Bryan and Brett Bennett, and the John Philip Sousa Award ($1,500) presented to McKenzye Talkington.
Other awards included the Dr. Walter Shaw Scholarships, two $1,305 awards presented to Ezekiel Wengerd and Rainique Simmons; the MHS Class of 1975 50th Reunion Scholarship ($500) to Autumn Thompson; and the Stark County Farm Bureau Scholarship ($750) to Evelyn Bryan. Enoch Brodzenski received the $1,000 Addison Shaye Benzel Memorial Scholarship.
As a result of an abatement agreement between DAUCH and Minerva Local Schools, six $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Grace Angione, Megan Lynn, Aiden Perrin, Macy Stowe, Rachel Weaver and Ezekiel Wengerd.
West Township Ruritan Scholarships, four $1,000 awards, were presented to Kaden Almasy, McKenzye Talkington, Kyleigh Lippincott and Madalynn Bartley, while the National Ruritan Scholarship ($1,000) went to Macy Stowe.
Rotary scholarships included two $1,750 awards to Ezekiel Wengerd and Rainique Simmons and two $1,000 awards to Emily Lautzenheiser and Makayla Gill.
Band Boosters Scholarships, two $1,000 awards, were presented to McKenzye Talkington and Enoch Brodzenski, while Minerva Elementary PTO Scholarships, two $500 awards, went to Nathaniel Linkous and Bailey Wood.
Additional recognitions included the James Hahlen Memorial Scholarship ($750) to Aiden Perrin; the Courtesy Award, sponsored by Minerva Area Federal Credit Union ($500), to Julian Elliott; MHS Teens of the Year awards, two $500 awards, to Braydon Wood and Rachel Weaver; and Alliance Elks Teens of the Year awards, two $200 awards, to Braydon Wood and Danika Wagner.
Top 10 Percent Awards, 18 awards of $100 sponsored by the Minerva Education Foundation and Alumni Association, were presented to Macy Stowe, Megan Lynn, Braydon Wood, Owen Yoder, McKenzye Talkington, Rachel Weaver, Evelyn Bryan, Julian Elliott, Kaden Almasy, Enoch Brodzenski, Danika Wagner, Nathin Shahan, Rowen Hoffee, Bruce Porter, Skyler Lab, Mason Smith, Ray Meadows and Keegan Shingleton.
Additional scholarships included the Gregg Palmer Memorial Scholarship ($500) to Lillian Stoltzfus; the Lee Jackson Memorial Scholarship ($500) to Madalynn Bartley; Geraldine T. Kopp Scholarships, two $500 awards, to Lanae Walter and Layna Sanor; John Kopp Scholarships, two $500 awards, to Rachel Weaver and Lillian Stoltzfus; the First Commonwealth Bank Scholarship ($1,000) to Macy Stowe; and the McClester Family Scholarship ($5,000) to Lincoln Wallace.
Minerva Firefighters Association Scholarships, two $1,000 awards, were presented to Emily Lautzenheiser and Autumn Thompson.
The Owen Grubb Memorial Scholarships, five $500 awards, were awarded to Rowen Hoffee, Aiden Perrin, Rainique Simmons, Ezekiel Wengerd and Owen Yoder, while the Frank Monk Memorial Scholarship ($300) went to Aiden Perrin.
Athletic-related awards included MABC Senior Athlete Scholarships, two $500 awards, to Nathaniel Linkous and Rachel Weaver and Coaches Recommendation MABC Heart of a Lion Scholarships, two $250 awards, to Braydon Wood and Kyleigh Lippincott.
Additional honors included Ohio High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Awards to Enoch Brodzenski and Rachel Weaver; Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Awards to Braydon Wood and Kyleigh Lippincott; National Federation of State High School Associations Awards of Excellence to Owen Yoder and Emily Lautzenheiser; U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Awards to Danika Wagner and Owen Shick; and Minerva High School Courageous Athlete Awards to Ireland Kirkpatrick and Skyler Lab.
Ryan Smith received the Ohio High School Athletic Association Award for Exemplary Contribution and Service, while MHS Head Coaches Athletes of the Year were Rowen Hoffee and Rachel Weaver.
Minerva High School Teens of the Month included Lanae Walter and Grace Angione for September; Madalynn Bartley and Macy Stowe for October; Julian Elliott and Megan Lynn for November; Danika Wagner and Autumn Thompson for December; Braydon Wood and Emily Lautzenheiser for January; Owen Yoder and Rachel Weaver for February; Aiden Perrin and Kyleigh Lippincott for March; Rainique Simmons and Rowen Hoffee for April; and McKenzye Talkington and David Bryan for May.
Alliance Elks Teens of the Month included Julian Elliott and Rachel Weaver for September; Braydon Wood and Megan Lynn for October; David Bryan and Danika Wagner for November; Owen Yoder and Macy Stowe for December; Rowen Hoffee and Madalynn Bartley for January; Aiden Perrin and Autumn Thompson for February; Kaden Almasy and Lanae Walter for March; and Keegan Shingleton and McKenzye Talkington for April.
