Anna Jean Mitchell (Hoelscher), age
96, passed away on August 7, 2025, in San Antonio, TX. She was born in
Lancaster, Ohio, on July 10, 1929. She and her 5 siblings grew up on a farm
near Breman. After her family moved to Columbus, where she lived until age 95,
she graduated from East High School in 1947. She spent several years working in
the insurance industry. She married Jay P. Mitchell on March 5, 1966, and
was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Jean was active in many
local organizations including the Women’s Auxiliary of the Franklin County Ohio
Society of Professional Engineers, the Clintonville Republican Women Club, and
the Ohio Chapter of the Palatines to America German Genealogical Society. Jean
was very interested in genealogy and enjoyed tracing her family’s ancestry as
well as helping others. As part of her research, she visited Germany and
Scotland, getting to trace the roots of both her and her husband’s
families.
Jean is survived by her son Joseph N. (Evelynn) Mitchell and her
grandchild Kayla. She was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings Carl
Richard (aka Dick), Mary E. Yoder, Harry, Robert, and Joseph William and her
parents Adolf J. and Emma S. Hoelscher (Weber).
Jean will be buried at Cadiz Union Cemetery, 274 Charleston St., Cadiz,
OH at Noon on Saturday, August 30. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 pm
on Sunday, August 31 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1735 Bethel Rd., Columbus,
OH.
