Wade C. Mitchell, 90, of Minerva, completed his final shift on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, and clocked out at 8:20 a.m. in the home of his daughter, Vanessa, in South Carolina.
He was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Minerva, Ohio, to Chester and Dorothy (Anthony) Mitchell.
He was a corporal in the United States Marines in the Korean War era from 1953 to 1956 aboard the USS Oakhill, where he traveled to the Mediterranean Sea. He was a 1954 graduate of Minerva High School and an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He worked most of his life at Minerva Wax Paper until it closed in 1992. He was union secretary for Minerva Wax Paper, president of the Minerva Historical Society for three years and vice president for eight. He was president of the AARP Minerva Chapter 1808 and a proud volunteer of the Red Cross, working with them for nearly 25 years for the Blood Bank as an escort.
Wade is survived by his son, Greg (Elizabeth) Fox; daughter, Vanessa (Mark) Marion; grandchildren, Crystal (Kenny) Weaver, Philip Marion, Sarah Fox, Heather Brown, Alanna McRobie, Jeremy Brown, Katrina Crochet, and Joshua Crochet; sister-in-law, Terry Mitchell; nieces, Wendy (Dave) Morvatz and Ashley (Jason) Lutz; and stepchildren, Tina (Albert) Russell and Gary (Candy) Binkley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (VanFossen) Mitchell; and his brothers, Norman and Gordon Mitchell. He wanted everyone to know that he felt very lucky to have married into two wonderful families—the Grimes/Kintz family and the VanFossen family—where he has a host of nieces and nephews left to cherish his memory, along with the town of Minerva that he loved so much.
