Helen V. Rutan
Helen Virchie Rutan, 91, of Harrisville, Ohio passed away peacefully Saturday, January 24, 2025, at Trinity Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born March 8, 1934, in Moundsville, WV, the only child of Lester J. and Mary Miller Cain.
She graduated from Moundsville High School and soon married her high school sweetheart, Martin G. Rutan on October 10, 1953. They were married for 62 years until Martin’s passing in 2015.
Helen was a member of the Harrisville Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and attending tractor shows with her husband. She always loved doing puzzles and getting together with her “antique” friends to play games.
She was a wonderful mom, grandma and great-grandma. She loved her family dearly and always looked forward to spending time with them. She enjoyed cooking and baking for them as well. The times spent at dirt bike races, tractor shows, playing pretend restaurant and games with the grandkids, coloring eggs and all the laughter will be memories to last a lifetime.
Surviving are her four sons, David (Jacqueline) of Ovilla, Texas, Donald (Cynthia) of Powell, Ohio, Doug (Sherri) of Marysville, Ohio and Dean (Robin) of Harrisville, Ohio. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Brian, Brock (Alysann and children Harper and Brodie), Matthew (Daria), Joel, Abigail (Josh Neighoff and children Isabella, Eloise and Elizabeth), John (Maria), and Rachel.
Helen spent her last 17 months being lovingly cared for at the Harrison County Home. She greatly enjoyed the activities and entertainment provided and the opportunity to have her hair and nails done each week. The family appreciates everyone who made her time at the home enjoyable and for the fantastic care given.
Friends and family were received Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a funeral service officiated by Pastor Ken Staley at 12:00 PM at Harrisville Methodist Church, 49355 U.S. Route 250, Harrisville, Ohio 43974. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Harrisville Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 173, Harrisville, Ohio 43974. Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.borkoskifuneral.com
