Bettie J. H. Sedgmer
Bettie Jean Hall Sedgmer passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. She was 99 years old according to Bettie. She is survived by her daughter, Beckie Lewis (Alan) of Copley, Ohio, grandson, Trevor (Ashleigh) of Hudson, Ohio, granddaughter, Shelby Lewis Harris (Brandon) of Brooklyn, New York, and special daughter, Amy Ossman of Cadiz, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Sedgmer and parents, Mary and Chester Hall.
Bettie was born in Cadiz, Ohio on June 4, 1925. She graduated from Cadiz High School, attended business school, and worked as a bookkeeper in the county engineer’s office.
She married Bob in 1949. Together they enjoyed traveling all over the country, and camping locally, serving on various church committees and boards, and attending all of Beckie’s activities (which were later replaced by grandchildren’s activities).
Bettie was a room mom at school, baking and crafting before there was Pinterest. She also made and sold coal jewelry for the Coal Festival and volunteered as a tour guide at the Clark Gable Museum.
Many thanks to the best neighbor ever for all the home cooked meals and friendship, and to wonderful caregivers who helped keep her at home as long as possible.
Bettie loved living in Cadiz, she loved her family, and yes, she loved a good creamstick. Rarely did you see Bettie or Bob without the other one. Now they are together again.
Bettie and Bob loved spending time at the library. The family strongly encourages that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Puskarich Public Library, 200 East Market Street, Cadiz, Ohio 43907.
A small private service honoring Bettie’s life has taken place.
