Richard Henderson

Rich Henderson

Richard “Rich” Henderson, 74, of Carrollton, passed away peacefully after a short illness.

He was born March 9, 1951, in Irondale, Ohio, to Quenton E. Henderson and Jane E. (Gill) Henderson.

He attended Stanton Local High School and later Hobart. For many years, Rich was a familiar face in the community as owner of Henderson’s Valley Market in Hammondsville.

Rich had a passion for classic cars, the outdoors, a good card game and football. He never knew a stranger and had a gift for turning everyday moments into friendships. His personality was larger than life — full of energy, stories and laughter. But his generosity was quiet, humble and far-reaching. He helped many people over the years, always without fanfare and never expecting anything in return.

He was deeply proud of his role as a provider, not just in a practical sense but in the way he showed up for his family time and again. Being someone his loved ones could count on was one of his greatest points of pride. As “Papa,” Rich adored his granddaughter and made it a priority to attend every cheer competition and dance recital he could, always cheering her on with pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jane A. Blanchard; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan (Clark) Henderson; son, Jess Henderson; daughter, Kady Long; granddaughter, McKenna Long; and many lifelong friends.

At Rich’s request, there will be no services.

Donations may be made in his memory to Carroll Masonic Lodge 124, P.O. Box 35, Carrollton, Ohio 44615.
