Bonnie J. Cottrell
Bonnie J. Cottrell, 72, of Sherrodsville, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2025, in her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 27, 1952, in Steubenville to the late Kenneth and Frances (DeClare) Stackhouse.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Kelly Cottrell, who died July 23, 2020, and a brother.
In addition to her responsibilities as a homemaker, Bonnie was formerly employed as a receptionist for Belknap Chiropractic in New Philadelphia. She also had experience in other medical-related fields, including Aultman Hospital and home health care.
She proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era and attained the rank of corporal. She graduated in 1970 from Carrollton High School, although she had attended Conotton Valley High School until the middle of her junior year, and always associated herself with Conotton Valley Schools.
Bonnie was an extraordinary cook, creating all of her dishes from scratch without the use of recipes. Some of her specialties were chicken and dumplings and black raspberry cobbler. She was a very bright and well-organized woman who made her family a priority.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Lee Cottrell, whom she married Aug. 21, 1971; a daughter, Mrs. Shannon (Victor Jr.) Miller of Bowerston; a grandson, Logan (Paige) Miller; a granddaughter, Mrs. Morgan (Bryce) Ferrell; a great-granddaughter, Dawsyn Miller; and two sisters.
No formal funeral services are scheduled.
Following cremation, her ashes will be buried alongside her son in Leavittsville Cemetery.
The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home of Sherrodsville has been entrusted with her arrangements.
