Irene was born April 3, 1935, in Rowlesburg, WV to the late Howard and Wiliavean (Masters) Hartsell. She graduated from Rowlesburg, WV High School in 1952. She married Charles V. Steele on February 5, 1955, in Holmesville, Ohio and he preceded her in death.

Irene spent 26 years in banking, having various positions. She was a member of Gateway Fellowship until her health declined. Irene was saved at a very young age and remained faithful to Christ as a Christian her entire life. Irene was the family prayer warrior. She spent many hours in prayer and reading her Bible.

Surviving is her son Charles (Chuck) V. Steele of Apple Creek, Ohio, brother Howard Hartsell of Millersburg, Ohio, brother Bob (Linda) Hartsell of Apple Creek, Ohio, grandchildren Tara Larimore, Randy “Bubba” Clinage, Brandy, Jessica, and Emily; great grandchildren Pacee, Ashton, Silas, and Mason.

In addition to her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her daughter Sherry Lynn Clinage whom she loved very much, her sister Eleanor Hartsell at the age of two, sister Connie Shedron, and her son-in-law Randy Clinage.

Alexander Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be left at www.alexanderfhinc.com.

Special note from Irene: I loved my brothers, Bob— my baby brother, and Howard who was always there for me. I loved my son, Chuck, even if we were far apart for most of our lives. I have spent many minutes and hours on my knees for my grandchildren Tara, Brandy, Bubba, Jessie, and Emily, praying they will all be saved and meet me one day in Heaven. Loved all my great grandchildren: Pacee, whom I helped Sherry raise until she was the age of six; Ashton, a fine-looking young man; Silas Larimore, my little clown; and Mason, who I also loved.
