Hiland baseball tops Fort Frye to capture district championship
Hawks get strong pitching from Monigold, Yoder in 11-2 win
The Hiland baseball team captured a district title with an 11-2 victory over Fort Frye in a Division VI district final May 29.
Andre Yoder led the Hawks with two hits and two RBIs. Michael Miller drove in two runs, Jonah Yoder had two hits, Isaiah Wagler had a home run, knocked in two runs and scored twice, and Griffin Monigold scored twice.
Grady Monigold earned the win on the mound, yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits over four innings with three strikeouts and four walks. Andre Yoder tossed three scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits while striking out two.
Hiland picked up a 6-1 win over Buckeye Trail in a Div. VI district semifinal May 27.
Grady Monigold led the Hawks with two hits (home run), two RBIs and two runs scored. Griffin Monigold doubled and knocked in three runs while Gerut Monigold scored two runs.
Miller went the distance to earn the complete-game victory on the mound, allowing one run on four hits with 13 strikeouts and two walks.
