TOPS Nashville focuses on seasonal produce
Members discussed fresh produce and healthy summer eating
TOPS 1573 Nashville met June 3 and had no gainer.
The best weekly loser was Geneva Pringle, who encouraged members to drink water first thing in the morning and to watch their calorie intake. Leo Tope was the best weekly KOPS.
The program’s theme was “Summer’s Best in Season” from the website thehealthy.com. The program noted four basic reasons to eat produce while it is fresh.
Fresh produce is not as expensive when people buy just enough to use immediately. There are innumerable ways to fix fresh produce, and members were encouraged to try new and different produce. Chinese food has multiple healthy vegetables people may not be familiar with. Members also were encouraged to try new versions of familiar foods.
The program also noted there are multiple websites on preparing produce, and fruits and vegetables can be purchased already cut and washed.
Starting June 9, TOPS 1573 Nashville will meet Tuesdays at Nashville Global Methodist Church. Meetings are at 5:30 p.m., with weigh-in at 5 p.m.
