Roy Ray

Roy J. Ray, 88, of Carrollton, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, at the Carroll Golden Age Retreat, surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Carrollton, a son of the late Nelson and Leona Ray.

Roy graduated from Carrollton High School and Mount Union College and later received his master’s degree from Youngstown State University. He was employed by the Carrollton Exempted Village School District for 30 years, serving as a teacher, coach, transportation director and principal, touching many lives throughout his career.

On Aug. 16, 1959, Roy married Judy (Anguish) Ray. They were married for 50 years before her passing in 2010.

His hobbies included playing cards, golfing and bowling. His greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren participate in their activities.

He is survived by his son, Denny (Diane) Ray of Alaska; daughters, Cissy Bright and Chris (Scott) Nichols, both of Carrollton; six grandchildren, Liz, Charlie, Dallas, Tori, Mycala and Ellie; five great-granddaughters, Natalie, Lydia, Jayde, Haylee and Abby; and his brother, Tim (Laura) Ray of Washington.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at a later date.
