Evelyn Ruth Landon

Ruth Landon

Evelyn "Ruth" Landon, age 92, of Millersburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her two granddaughters holding her hand on October 19, 2025, following a decline in health. Ruth was born on October 2, 1933, to Claude and Dicie (Robinson) Hill in Bristol WV.

Ruth married the love of her life; Carroll Landon on July 15, 1951, and together they had three children, Cheryl, Doug, and a stillborn daughter Wanda. Ruth & Carroll were the Co-owners of Landon's IGA in Killbuck in the 60's. She also worked at Rice-Chadwick of Killbuck and later retired from Data Card of Holmesville.

Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Killbuck her entire life and in her later years when she could not attend church services, she would watch her "Preachers" on TV all day Sunday in her home.

Ruth enjoyed many years of attending her grandchildren & great grandchildren’s events and was always happy when family and friends would stop to see her for a quick visit. Ruth often told the story that when she was growing up her father referred to her as "Punk" and she knew she was safe if he called her that, but when he called her "Ruth" she knew he meant business. "Punk" became her nickname with all of her closest family and friends referring to her by that name. Ruth was a phenomenal cook and was an avid lover of all things that were sweet, but her family loved when she made her famous Swiss Steak meals to celebrate birthdays! Ruth was very special to all that knew her and her family loved that they had the chance to love her for so many wonderful years.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Carroll Landon, daughters Cheryl Tharp and infant daughter Wanda Landon, parents Claude and Dicie Hill, in-laws Delbert and Minta Landon, sister and brother-in-law Betty and Jack Conn, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Lola Hill, brothers-in-law Stan Orr and Don Chapman, many in-laws, friends and relatives.

Ruth is survived by her son, Doug (Karen) Landon, grandchildren Carol (John) Hawkins, Trent (Leslie) Miller, Angie (Dan) Wirth, Drew Landon, Jordan (Noelle) Landon; great-grandchildren Landon (Brittney) and Kaedon (Hannah) Hawkins, Reese and Evelyn Landon, Aaliya Wirth, Mackenzie Mast, Morgan McElroy, Caleb Miller; son-in-law Dave Tharp; great-great-grandchildren, Josie Mast, Bentley McElroy. She is also survived by her two older sisters Norma Chapman and Doris Orr and in-laws Katy VanVailen, Elaine Landon, Chuck Stocker and many nieces, nephews and friends.
