ASM Ella Ruth Taylor
Advance Senior Mother, Ella Ruth Taylor, age 87, of Coshocton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
She was born on February 17, 1938, in Potter’s Crossing, New Jersey to the late Pres. Elder Madison Job Slaughter Sr. and Sr. Mother Nettie (James) Slaughter.
On June 26, 1960, Adv. Sr. Mother Ruth married Adv. Presiding Elder, Zelek F. Taylor. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage until his passing on October 16, 2021.
Adv. Sr. Mother Ruth was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob. She was known for composing many songs and enjoyed singing. Adv. Sr. Mother Ruth also was a talented cake decorator and enjoyed cooking. She worked as a Social Worker for many years at Jacobs Dwelling.
Adv. Sr. Mother Ruth is survived by her three children, Brother Jonathan Taylor of Akron, Mother Rhoda Taylor of Columbus, and Brother Mark Taylor of Columbus: sister, Adv. Sr. Mother Bedelion Preston of Alanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Adv. Sr. Mother Darlene Taylor of Coshocton, Adv. Sr. Mother Lurline Taylor of Youngstown and Mother Annette Slaughter of Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Adv. Sr. Mother Ruth is preceded in death by 14 siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:00 am at The Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, First Tabernacle. Senior Bishop S. Joshua King will officiate. Burial will follow at Machpelah Burial Acres. Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family. An online memorial can be viewed at www.given-dawson-paisleyfh.com.
