Coshocton Library launches Summer Reading Program
Join the 'Unearth a Story' kickoff event May 26 at Coshocton Community Room
The Coshocton County District Library, West Lafayette Branch Library and bookmobile are once again preparing for another summer of programs.
The library encourages everyone to continue reading throughout the summer to maintain and strengthen reading skills. Youth may record the amount of time they spend reading using paper reading logs or using a digital platform called Beanstack. Youth may earn coupons and prizes for the time they read, and they may be entered for a chance to win a grand prize.
The theme this year is "Unearth a Story" with many programs and activities featuring dinosaurs, archaeology and historical exploration. Dig into good stories and uncover the past this summer by reading, completing activities, attending programs, and using other library resources and services.
The library would like to thank community businesses, organizations and individuals for their support of the Summer Reading Program. The reading program includes crafts, activities, programs, prizes and other reading incentives, provided entirely by community members, and the library is grateful for their support.
All ages are invited to the kickoff event from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at the Coshocton Community Room to pick up materials for summer reading, participate in activities, get refreshments and experience a multigenerational storytelling performance by professional storyteller Kevin Cordi. Door prize drawings for children, teens and adults will be available for all who sign up for summer reading.
Throughout the rest of the summer, the library will have a variety of activities and programs to complement the "Unearth a Story" theme. For the full calendar of events and registration information, visit www.coshoctonlibrary.org.
Lapsit (story time for age 0-3) and preschool storytime (for age 3-6) will take place twice a week at Coshocton and once a week at West Lafayette in the summer. Staff also will offer storytimes in the parks throughout Coshocton County every other Monday during the Summer Reading Program. Make sure to check the library calendar for locations near you.
Just like during the regular year, the library will continue to have Book Club for third grade through sixth grade every month. In June and July, staff will offer weekly Monday crafts for children at the Coshocton Main Library and branch library. There will be STEAM-based activities for Little Adventurers in kindergarten through second grade once a month in June, July and August. The weekly teen Plugged and Unplugged programs will rotate different activities each week with art, board games, puzzles and computers.
The Works Museum will come to Coshocton to present an interactive program on Fairy Tale Science at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18 at the Coshocton Community Room.
Don’t forget to check the newly refreshed StoryWalk at Clary Gardens to read the summer story “Dinosaur Day” by Diana Murray.
In addition to programs at the library and offsite, youth may participate in individual activities such as scavenger hunts and bingo. A set of activities will be available with your summer reading materials, and new ones will be available in July.
Similar to previous summers, Coshocton County District
Library has coordinated schedules with Clary Gardens, Historic Roscoe Village, the
Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum and Pomerene Center for the Arts to maximize
opportunities for Coshocton families to take part in youth programming. Youth
who attend 10 programs at any of those locations may collect stamps to earn
free admission to Lake Park Aquatic Center.
