Richard G. Shaw
Richard G. Shaw passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He was born July 23, 1935, in Orange, Ohio, the third son of John R. and Elizabeth (Widder) Shaw.
Richard was raised in Newcomerstown, where he resided up until his senior year of high school. After moving to Coshocton, he graduated from C.H.S. as part of the class of 1953. In September of 1953, Richard enlisted in the Navy. He always said no one had a better duty, as he served in Philadelphia, New York, Bermuda, and aboard the General Buckner on ten trips to Germany.
On April 10, 1966, he married his beloved wife, Carol (Binning) Shaw, who survives him.
Richard was the first local hire at Cyclops, now Cleveland Cliffs. He held several foreman positions before retiring as Safety Supervisor. After 38 years, Richard initiated talks with congressman John Ashbrook for Untaxed Saving Accounts for Peons. This led to the IRAs that are enjoyed by millions today.
Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Shaw of Coshocton; daughter, Tracie (Jay) Wheeler of Coshocton; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Ross) Cheu of Texas and Braeden Wheeler of Coshocton; great-grandson, Ryder Cheu of Texas; his brother, Gregory Shaw of Coshocton; and his sister, Cindy Sikora of Coshocton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rita Shaw of West Lafayette; step-grandchildren, Kevin Taylor of Michigan, Zach, Hannah, and Micah Taylor, all of Oklahoma, and Leah Taylor of Coshocton; and step-great-grandchildren, Sara and Chaiyah Taylor of Oklahoma, Nevah and Elijah Taylor, Aurora and Aisling Coleman, all of Coshocton; in addition to a host of other family, friends, and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, John, William, Jene, and James Shaw and Mary Grace; his stepdaughter, Tanya Taylor; and his step-great-grandson, Malcolm Jenkins.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Bryan Kittner officiating. Services will conclude with burial at South Lawn Cemetery.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the donor’s choice of charity.
