Calvary Baptist closes VBS with block party
Coshocton families joined awards night June 11 as local groups, first responders and businesses helped wrap up the church’s Vacation Bible School
Calvary Baptist Church celebrated the final evening of Vacation Bible School with awards night and a block party on June 11. Families enjoyed good food, prizes, inflatables, tractors and summer fun.
Cara Renner, office manager at Calvary Baptist church said, “This is the first year we have done a block party as part of our Vacation Bible School. Our theme this year was Our Town because it is all about Coshocton, loving Christ’s church and celebrating our community. This year we brought in some local businesses and organizations to help us celebrate at the end of the week, kind of a carnival theme. We brought inflatables, bounce houses, food and lots of fun things to do for the kids.”
Pastor Sam Brown’s wife Alyssa said, "We did the theme of Our Town this year to celebrate our town and how our local church is a part of our town. We asked all these local businesses and first responders like the fire department to come and celebrate with us. It gives the kids an opportunity to know what is here and be a part of it.
Kelly Loper, networking coordinator for the Pregnancy Center of Coshocton, was grateful to be included.
“We are very involved in the community,” she said. “We help families and babies born or unborn and help the family as a whole. We offer educational support, we offer material support so they can come in and learn things that are life skills or parenting and we are handing out graham crackers and stickers. We have a box that shows stages of development of babies in the womb. They love to see our touch of life in the display. We talk about how we are created from conception, made by our designer God who loves us and cares about us, and he wants us to grow and thrive.”
Jen Williams, marketing director from the Coshocton Library, also attended the event, “We are here to share about the summer reading program for all ages, children, teens and adults,” she said.
If children visited all the tables to get a mark on their Bingo card, they were entered into a drawing for a plane ride with Mr. Shearer, a member of the church.
