Gordon Crater

Fort Myers, Florida, Gordon Eugene Crater, August 22, 1931-November 25, 2025. Gordon was born in Coshocton, Ohio. He was the son of Elmer and Ruth (Thomas) Crater. His beloved wife of 56 years, Wanda Lee (Folger) Crater, his son Mark Crater, grandsons Elijah and Isaac Crater, granddaughter Madison Teremi, his brother David Crater, his sister Theda Jo Jones, brother-in-law Raymond White, and nephews John and Chris Crater, all passed away before him.

Gordon graduated from Coshocton High School and then joined the Navy during the Korean war. He served aboard both the Valley Forge and Coral Sea aircraft carrier. After the Navy he pursued an apprenticeship with General Electric and landed a career at Ekco products in Canton, Ohio. He was a Mold Maker Journeyman. Gordon and Wanda moved to Lansing, Michigan where he had a career at Oldsmobile. He retired as an Engineering Manager.

Gordon was the local Boy Scout leader spanning over a decade. His sons were eagle scouts. He enjoyed golfing and remained golfing up to a few months ago at 94. He was regularly active in his church and served as a greeter. He was an avid card player, and his favorite games were cribbage and hand & foot. He collected his winnings proudly and kept them all for good luck.

Gordon was a car enthusiast and owned several antique convertible cars. He enjoyed driving guests that were visiting him in Florida around the town with the top down. His cars always had an obnoxious horn that would make people laugh.

Gordon leaves his five children Penny (and spouse Greg) Sabrosky, Bradley (and spouse Melissa) Crater. Gregory Crater (and spouse Sue), Jeffrey Crater, Tamara Farrell (and spouse Stefan), his sister Mary Lynn White, sister-in-law Fay Crater, brother-in-law Allen Grace, and daughter-in-law Karen Crater, along with several dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gordon took pleasure in spending time with his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A great- great grandchild was born this past year.

His legacy will live on forever in our hearts. His family, church, golf friends, and neighbors all called him a "Legend." May his soul rest in peace. A graveside service and celebration of life will take place in Coshocton, Ohio on June 4, 2026.
