1st Lt. William Harold Hott was born on April 17, 1921, in Prairie Township. He is one of eight children of Amos Gilliam Hott and Sarah (Hostetler) Hott. 1st Lt. W. Hott entered the U.S. Army from Ohio and served in D Company, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He died on December 1, 1950, in North Korea, at the age of 29. The U.S. Army issued a report of death February 28, 1951, and declared his remains non-recoverable on January 16, 1956. On July 27, 2018, North Korea unilaterally turned over to the United States 55 boxes of remains believed to be U.S. service members killed during the war. On March 18, 2025, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of 1st Lt. William H. Hott who was missing from the Korean War (1950-1953).
1st Lt. William H. Hott’s remains were returned home Friday, August 22 where a convoy escorted him from Cleveland Hopkins Airport to Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg, Ohio. Public funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday August 25, 2025 at the William T. Baker Building at Harvest Ridge, 8880 OH 39, Millersburg, Ohio, with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. A private interment will take place at Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville, Ohio. Alexander Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
