George
Conrad Porter, a lifelong resident of the Steubenville, Ohio area, passed away
peacefully on October 20, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on July 16, 1936, in the
same area that would see the entirety of his rich and full life, George left an
indelible mark on all who knew him.
George proudly served in the United States Air
Force for 8 years before dedicating the next part of his life to the education
and betterment of young minds as a History Teacher, imparting knowledge and
wisdom to countless students. He later retired from Weirton Steel, where he
served diligently as a Quality Control Supervisor, respected and admired by
colleagues for his dedication and work ethic.
His commitment to community was seen in his
active participation in several organizations, including the Weirton Elks Lodge
1801, the Hopedale Sportsman Club, and the Hopedale Legion Post 682. An
educated man, George held a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching, which further
underscored his passion for learning and sharing knowledge.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother,
Katherine Porter-Reed; his sisters, Janice Porter and Hester Porter; his
brothers, Larry Reed and David Reed; and his nephew, Jason Porter.
George is survived by his loving children, Amy
Porter and her husband Sean, and Jeff Porter and his wife Lydia. He is also
survived by his siblings, David Porter and his wife Audra, Ruth George, John
and Mary, and Kathy Peterson and her husband Brad. Further surviving him are
his nephew Louie Porter, nieces Kathleen and Debbie, and nephews Mark, Todd,
and Mike.
In keeping with George's wishes, there will be
no formal services. His family honors his request and cherishes the memories
they hold dear.
George will be remembered for his steadfast
love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his unwavering integrity.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and strength.
