Carole Miller

Carole D. Nameth Miller, age 83, of Jewett (Germano) went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 3, 2024, from Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, WV, following a period of declining health.

Born July 21, 1940, in Wheeling, WV, she was a daughter of the late Steven Nameth and Matilda Hauber Nameth Tharp and her stepfather Harry Tharp. Carole received an associate degree in accounting from Jefferson Technical College in Steubenville and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the former College of Steubenville (Franciscan University of Steubenville). She worked at the Royal Pavilion Skilled Nursing Center and was honored to work for former State of Ohio Attorney General Anthony Celebreeze. She was also the fiscal officer for German Township for 30 years. After retiring, she worked as a substitute teacher for Harrison Hills CSD and at Harrison County Career Center.

Carole was a devoted member of St Teresa’s of Avila Catholic Church in Cadiz and belonged to the Harrison County Catholic Women’s group. A true leader in the Germano community, she belonged to the Germano Water Board for 40 years and was a member of the Germano Park Board. She was also a dedicated member of the Harrison County Democratic Women’s Club and was chosen to be on both the Harrison County Democratic Central Committee and the Executive Committee. Carole was also appointed to the Harrison County Board of Elections early in her career. She belonged to the George A Custer VFW Post 3072 Auxiliary and played “500 Bid” with the ladies in the Steubenville Card Club. She also loved to shop and was a wonderful cook, known for baking her delicious nut rolls. But what she loved most was spending time with her family.

Carole married the love of her life Donald D. Miller on December 19, 1964, and they were blessed with three daughters. The youngest being Dawn (Roger) Edwards of Jewett, and her daughters Alexis Barnhart (fiancée Andrew Barbina) and Ashlyn Barnhart, and his children Chelsey (Chris) Stitt and son Grady, Jarett (Rachel) Edwards and daughter Evelyn and Addie Edwards. Their middle daughter is Tracy Boyer of the Columbus area and her son Joshua Boyer. The oldest, Toni Ellis, passed away February 21, 2019, her husband Doug Ellis resides in Virginia and their children are Jaime (Eva) Ellis and Jeremy (Laurie) Ellis and their children Logan and Lucie Ellis. A sister Brenda (Jim) Cline and brother Adrian (Rhonda) Tharp also survive, as well as numerous special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sadly, Donald preceded Carole in death on October 26, 2008.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10 am in St Teresa’s of Avila Catholic Church, 143 E South St, Cadiz with Father Fred Kihm officiating. Burial will follow in Germano Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5-7:45 pm at Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Scio, where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:45 pm following the visitation. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to St Teresa’s of Avila.
