Library program highlights Revolutionary War patriots
Members of the Ebenezer Zane Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in St. Clairsville participated before the meeting
Puskarich Public Library hosted a program April 15 presented by Susan Adams from the Harrison County Genealogical Society on Revolutionary War patriots who came to Harrison County.
The information came from Volume 1 of the Ebenezer Zane Chapter Sons of the American Revolution book covering Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties in Ohio. The purpose of the book was “To Recognize — To Remember — To Honor” those patriots.
Three members of the Ebenezer Zane Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in St. Clairsville participated before the meeting. They were Jamie Price of New Athens, Adams and Jim Thompson of Jewett, vice president of the chapter. Price and Thompson attended in patriot uniforms. Jeff Turner, chapter president, also attended.
Thompson shared information on the cemetery project, where visitors can scan QR codes found on aluminum pedestals at cemeteries to learn more about Revolutionary War veterans buried there. The signs are being made by the Harrison and Jefferson County vocational schools.
Price spoke about the upcoming marker dedication for David Belknap at Rehoboth Pioneer Cemetery outside Adena. The cemetery is off County Road 10, turning onto Township Road 130. The dedication will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31.
Belknap died in 1831 in Short Creek Township. He was a private from Connecticut who came to Harrison County in 1813. He and his wife, Jane, were the parents of eight children.
Organizers thanked Thompson, Turner and Price for supporting the program, sharing their current projects and adding interest to the presentation.
