Ruby Ilene Kurtz

Ruby Ilene Kurtz, age 73, passed away on Monday, August 4th, 2025. Ruby was born October 4th, 1951, in Hartville, OH, to Ervin and Emma (Schlabach) Kurtz. She was a faithful member of Hartville Conservative Church.

As a dedicated nanny and childcare professional, she lovingly cared for hundreds of children with her watchful eyes. Helping mothers out by soothing their infants to sleep was her greatest delight. She also loved nothing more than spoiling her nieces and nephews, going out for ice cream or to McDonalds, remembering their birthdays with a card and money, and even the occasional trip to Florida.

Ruby is survived by her three siblings: Lillian (Simon) Helmuth of Hicksville, OH; Paula Yoder of Aroda, VA; Philip (Sharlet) Kurtz of Crossville, TN. Nieces: Robyn (Martin) Overholt of Due West, SC; Angela Yoder of Aroda, VA; Karen (Barry) Hochstetler of Hicksville, OH; Jamie Kurtz of Crossville, TN; Melody (Michael) Hostetler of Kenya, Africa. Nephews: Jeremy Kurtz of Alliance, OH; Brian Yoder of Charlottesville, VA; Myron (Laura) Helmuth of Harlan, IN; Sheldon (Joanne) Yoder of Aroda, VA; and twenty-five great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Eldon Yoder; niece, Gloria Yoder; nephews: Jordan Yoder and Ryan Kurtz.

A funeral service was held at Hartville Conservative Mennonite Church, 10547 Market Ave N, Uniontown, OH 44685, Monday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. The family received friends at Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 563 Tom Johnston Road, Aroda, VA, 22709, Saturday, August 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and at Hartville Conservative Mennonite Church on Sunday, August 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all of Ruby’s many friends and neighbors who were a blessing to her over the years and to the Mountain View Nursing Home staff who cared for her so gently and compassionately for the last three years of her life.
