At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Uniontown Lions Club welcomed newly elected Uniontown Township trustee Sue Grabowski, who was elected in November 2025. The meeting was informal, as the club provided eye screening training for members, allowing time to introduce Grabowski and give members the opportunity to get to know her.
The training was led by Lions member Chuck Allcorn, with support from John Summers, second vice district governor for Ohio Lions District 13 OH4. The training supports a valued service the club provides during its annual festival and other community events.
Vision screening is a core service of Lions clubs, offering free screenings for children and adults at schools, fairs and community events to help detect potential eye problems. The vision screener provides a one-page summary identifying conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, unequal refractive power, blurred vision, astigmatism, pupil size deviations and eye misalignment. No physical contact is required, and no eye drops are used. Vision screening has proven 95 percent effective in identifying these issues, allowing for early detection, prevention of vision loss and referral to eye care professionals. In some cases, financial assistance is also available for those in need.
