Lake Township declares two nuisance properties
Trustees also discuss fire levies, pickleball courts and police hiring
The Lake Township Board of Trustees declared two nuisance properties, discussed new fire levies, approved equipment and cemetery expenses, and said the township’s pickleball courts should be completed by mid-July.

At its meeting May 22, the Lake Township Board of Trustees declared nuisances at two properties for tall grass and vegetation violations at 11825 Basswood Ave. and 11561 Peach Glen Ave.
Trustees passed two resolutions of necessity requesting the Stark County auditor certify the amounts generated by levying an additional 2.5-mill fire district levy and an additional 2.75-mill fire district levy. Trustee Jeremy Yoder said the current 3.0-mill fire district levy will end this year, but increased property values will make the proposed levies sufficient.
The board agreed to purchase equipment repairs for the road department for $7,005.24 from Concord Road Equipment.
Trustees agreed to pay Haymaker Tree and Lawn $4,800 to remove a damaged tree at Mt. Peace Cemetery.
The board signed a trailway lease and maintenance agreement for the Lake Township Community Park involving the Lake Local School District and Lake Township.
Trustees adopted a new cybersecurity policy, as reviewed by staff and legal counsel, to take effect immediately.
The board agreed to hire Joseph Blondeaux as a full-time officer for the Uniontown Police Department.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chance Piotrowski of the Stark County Health Department addressed the board about services provided by the department.
Among the items of correspondence was an update on the status of the pickleball courts. Yoder said they should be completed by mid-July.
The Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a hearing Thursday, June 18, at 7 p.m. at the township hall.
The board approved total expenditures of $116,156.37, which trustees said included several insurance payments.
Board President John Arnold was absent.
