Lake Township sets moratorium on new data centers
Trustees also reschedule May meetings, approve purchases and expenditures
Lake Township trustees approved a six-month moratorium on new data centers while addressing other township business, including scheduling changes and equipment purchases.

At their April 27 meeting, Lake Township trustees passed a resolution to establish a six-month moratorium on any new data centers in the township. They will also consider adding a section about data centers to the township zoning resolution.
In other business, the board rescheduled May meetings. Because of scheduling conflicts, the May 11 meeting will be held May 8 at 8:30 a.m. Because of the Memorial Day holiday, the second meeting in May will be held May 22 at 2:45 p.m.
Trustees engaged in extensive discussion with the owners of a property in Lake o’Pines Estates who had enclosed a ditch without the required permit. The township legal counsel advised the board to tell the property owners to replace the ditch within six months.
The board agreed to purchase a pipe camera for the road department from The Safety Company LLC, doing business as MTech, for $96,855.66. The department has been borrowing the device from other local governments.
Trustees agreed to pay H&H Dumpster Company $3,750 for disposal services for the spring clean-up.
The board authorized renewal of membership in the Stark County Township Association for 2026-27.
The Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a hearing May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Township Hall.
The board approved total expenditures of $116,071.25.
