Lake school board approves overnight trips

Board also accepts donations, approves handbooks and policies

The Lake Local Board of Education approved several overnight student trips, accepted donations and grants, approved handbooks and policies, and scheduled a public hearing for its June 22 meeting.

At its meeting May 18, the Lake Local Board of Education approved several overnight trips: the National Speech and Debate Competition in Richmond, Virginia, June 14-19; the seventh-grade trip to Washington, D.C., Oct. 13-15; sixth-grade camp, Oct. 21-23; the Legal Studies/AP Euro/AP Art History trip to Washington, D.C., Dec. 4-5; and the eighth-grade trip to Philadelphia, March 3-5. The cost of the trips is paid by the students.

In other business, the board accepted a donation of $48,000 for the benefit of LMHS Arts and STEAM from the Nationwide Foundation through Stark Community Foundation in recognition of Jeffrey Zellers serving on the Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company board for 19 years, including six years as chairman, and a grant of $2,000 worth of tennis equipment from the United States Tennis Association for the benefit of the LMHS physical education program.

The board approved the Quail Hollow Connector Trailway lease and maintenance agreement.

The board approved payment in lieu of transportation for three students. Members also accepted four new tuition students.

The board approved student handbooks for the 2026-27 school year for Lake Primary School, Lake Elementary School and Lake Middle/High School.

The board approved several policies.

The last day of school for all students will be May 29.

The next regular meeting of the Lake Local Board of Education will be held Monday, June 22, at 6 p.m. at Lake Elementary School. At the meeting, a public hearing will be held regarding the board’s intent at its July meeting to rehire four employees who are or may be retired.
