Carl Edward Rummell, age 93 of Newcomerstown, died peacefully with his family at his side while in the care of Riverside Manor on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018.
Born in New Philadelphia on Sept. 1, 1924, Carl was a son of the late Francis Walter and Etta Mae Lemasters Rummell.
Carl was a graduate of Dover High School, and on Feb. 29, 1948, he married the former Frances Eileen Aubihl. Together the couple raised 10 children and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Carl was a longtime dairy farmer and school bus driver for Indian Valley Schools. The couple enjoyed being members of the Tusco Traveliers Camper Club and loved taking trips throughout the United States in their motor home. Carl was a longtime member of the Uhrichsville Church of Christ who loved spending time with his family, woodworking and being around children.
In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by their 10 children, Kathleen Grove of Tuscarawas, Jane (Aaron) Thrasher of Centerville, Tennessee, Kenneth (Vivian) Rummell of Orrville, Loretta (Randy) Armstrong of Uhrichsville, Paul (Susan) Rummell of New Philadelphia, Sara (Thomas) Morgan of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Esther (Michael) Tatman of Uhrichsville, Peggy Cunningham of Stone Creek, Connie (Robert) Wise of Dennison and Lois (Richard) Ferris of New Madison, Ohio.
Completing the family are 18 grandchildren, Scott (Leigh) Grove, Jennifer (Jason) Graham, Kenneth Chad (Theresa) Rummell, Kimberly (Chad) Mehok, Jeremy (Wendy) Rummell, Gregory (Michelle) Rummell, Michael (Jennifer) Rummell, Brian (Ashley) Rummell, Timothy (Tiffany) Morgan, Ryan Morgan, Zane (Ashton) Cunningham, MacKenzie Cunningham, Holly (Ryan) Quillin, Jared (Tiffani) Wise, Justin (Kaitlyn) Clark, Cory (Katherine) Clark, Heather (Eric) Hall and Rachel Ferris; three step-grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters-in-law, Emily Rummell, Donna Rummell and Mabel Rummell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Bailey and Hazel Kaiser; three brothers, Warren, Roger and Dean Rummell; and two sons in law, Jerry Grove and Chad Cunningham.
The family will greet guests on Friday, Aug. 17 from 4-7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Carl’s life will be led by Pastor John Gibson on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
