James Conley Fields, 92, died Friday, March 20, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster.

He was born January 11, 1934, in Virgie, Kentucky, to the late Harrison and Marie (Tackett) Fields. He was a 1953 graduate of Virgie High School in Kentucky. He worked for the former WH Patton Drilling in Millersburg, and 29 years for Columbia Gas before retirement.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, watching old westerns on TV, and professional sports, especially the Cleveland Guardians. He was also an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Julia Ann (Young) Fields of Shreve, whom he married at the Warsaw United Methodist Church on June 22, 1957; their daughter, Cheryl (Russell) West of Zanesville; two grandchildren, Brent West, and Bryce West; three stepgrandchildren, Brian West (Brigitte), Brad (Brittnay) West, Bronson (Talisha) West; two great-stepgrandchildren, Ashlynn West, and Bradley West; four siblings, Glenna (Tommy) Holifield of Indiana, Alice Cowden of South Carolina, Debbie Smith of Lexington, Kentucky, and Harrison Fields of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Joe Fields, Shirley Johnson, Gracie Sheets, Kenny Fields, and an infant sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Fischer Funeral Home, 412 E. Main St. Warsaw, OH 43844, with Rev. Dairel Kaiser officiating.
