Holmes Center for the Arts unveils spring, summer class schedule
Classes offer diverse art opportunities for all ages

Holmes Center for the Arts announced its 2026 spring/summer visual art classes and camps schedule, featuring classes and camps for preschoolers, children, teens and adults.
Botanical Drawing: Spring Flowers will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, April 30 and May 7 and 14 for teens and adults. The cost is $45, and the class will be taught by Marcia Detter.

In this class participants will be able to combine realism with their own artistic aesthetic. They may choose to create several small floral studies using colored pencils or watercolor paints or elect to create one or two larger floral works using the same media.
Topics covered will include pencil drawing of flowers, colored pencil techniques, washes and opaque applications of watercolor. Materials and references will be provided.
Landscape Painting with Diane Graebner will be offered from 12:30-3 p.m. Saturdays, May 16, June 13 and July 11 for age 16 and older. The cost is $30 per workshop, and participation is limited to 10 people per class.
Graebner is an award-winning artist whose work has been represented in galleries throughout the United States.
“Creating my landscapes gives me a feeling of peace,” Graebner said. “I love water, waterfalls, trees and mountains. While creating these, I feel like I am a part of the whole.”
Participants will create acrylic landscapes on 11-by-14-inch stretched canvas. Supplies will be provided, but students may bring their own paints and brushes if they wish.

Calligraphy (Creative) will be offered from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6 for teens and adults. The cost is $20, and the class will be taught by Detter.
Calligraphy is described as the art of beautiful writing, including many fonts and requiring much practice. This class is not traditional calligraphy but instead will offer creative calligraphic alternatives suitable for gift tags, cards and similar projects.
Participants will learn about flourishes, brush lettering, connectors, double lettering, thick and thin, print script and more. The techniques are designed to be easy to learn, and participants will be able to make samples of each one. All materials will be provided.
A second Calligraphy (Creative) class for teens and adults will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. The cost is $20, and the class also will be taught by Detter.
Cartooning Camp will be offered from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, June 24 and 26 for age 7-15. The cost is $40. The camp will be led by Dylan Olsen, and students will learn tricks of the cartooning trade while creating several of their favorite characters.
A second Cartooning Camp will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15 for age 7-15. The cost is $40. Olsen will again lead the camp, and students will create several of their favorite characters, with different characters from those featured in the June camp.
Preschool Fairy Camp will be offered from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 9 and 10 for age 3-6. The cost is $40. Mary Gilmore will lead the camp, which will feature stories, dance and creative activities centered around fairies and nature.
Spanish Camp will be held from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, June 16 and 18 for age 5-12. The cost is $35. The camp will be taught by Colette Propri and Chelsea Hales and will provide an introduction to the Spanish language through music, food and art.
Preschool Camp, Whispers of the Pond: Nature-Inspired will be offered from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, June 24 and 26 for age 3-6. The cost is $40, and Hales will teach the camp.
Art Camp, Ocean Study will be held from 2-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 29 through July 1 for age 6-10. The cost is $65. Launie Shaw will teach the camp, where students will explore texture, color and design inspired by coral reefs and the ocean.
Preschool Fairy Camp will return from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15 for age 3-6. The cost is $40. Gilmore will lead the camp, which again will feature stories, dance and creative activities centered around fairies and nature.
Preschool Camp, Outer Space Adventure will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, July 29 and 31 for age 3-6. The cost is $40, and Hales will teach the camp.
Fairy Houses will be offered from 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, July 18 for age 12 and older. The cost is $20, and Gilmore will teach the class. Using a terracotta flowerpot and embellishments, participants will create an enchanted fairy house for the garden.
Art Camp, Ocean Study also will be offered from 3-5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, July 13-15 for age 8-12. The cost is $65. Autumn Shaw will lead the camp, where students will explore texture, color and design inspired by coral reefs and the ocean and create original artwork using paint and natural materials. The camp includes six hours of instruction.
STEAM Camp, Nature Inspired will be held from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, July 21-23 for age 6-10. The cost is $65. Launie Shaw will teach the camp. Students will discover the practical application of science, technology, engineering, art and math through activities including creating a terrarium in a bottle and making whirligigs and cup rockets. The camp will feature hands-on activities and include six hours of instruction.
Art Camp for Elementary Kids will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 8-10 for age 6-12. The cost is $95. Freda Graber will teach the camp, where students will learn painting techniques and other creative art explorations. Participants are encouraged to sign up soon to ensure a place. The camp includes nine hours of instruction.
A second Art Camp for Elementary Kids will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 15-17 for age 6-12. The cost is $95. Hales will lead the camp, where students will explore painting techniques and other art activities. The camp is expected to fill quickly, and it includes nine hours of instruction.
