Mildred M. “Millie” Czatt, 81, a longtime New Philadelphia resident, died March 4, 2010, at Union Hospital.Millie was born Oct. 31, 1928, in St. Clairsville, to the late Melvin W. Vanfossen and Pearl M. Smitley. By trade, she was a bookkeeper. She spent her working years taking care of the books for a variety of companies including the former Pioneer Pontiac dealership, RM Henning Hydraulics, Harcatus, and Ferris Chevrolet.She was an active member of Schoenbrunn Moravian Church, New Philadelphia, where she served as an elder, and was a member of the women’s fellowship. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing. Together they had belonged to several square dancing clubs and had traveled across the United States for a number of square dancing events. She also enjoyed reading and working on puzzles of all kinds.Surviving are children, Valerie (Brett) Long of Dennison, Beth (Bill) Weidner of Louisville, and Steven (Louise) Czatt of Columbus; three grandchildren, Tony Czatt of Columbus and Evan and Keenan Long of Dennison; brothers, Melvin (Shirley) Vanfossen of Dennison and Robert (Paula) Smitley of New Philadelphia; and sisters, Harriet (Bud) Fete of New Philadelphia and Linda (Randy) Metzger of Bolivar.She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale G. Czatt; brother, Jacob Smitley, and an infant brother and sister.Services were held March 8, 2010, at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Sue Koenig officiating.
