Carroll County Commissioners held their first meeting on YouTube, in addition to Facebook, Aug. 11. They discussed fair animals donated to the Carroll County Golden Age Retreat and the county Hazmat team.
Carroll Golden Age Retreat Superintendent Dawn Faulk gave her monthly report for July, which included Carroll County Fair donations from businesses and individuals.
“We are very thankful for local businesses and individuals who donated to us at this year’s Carroll County Fair,” said Faulk. “We received donations of three steers, seven hogs, 10 turkeys, 70 chickens and one goat.”
“I still can't believe how wonderful it is that our people at the county home are managing to eat homegrown, quality products within the county,” said Commissioner Robert Wirkner. “I think that it is comforting for people to know that the majority of the meat and poultry items are raised right in the county.”
“Yes, you know they are being well fed prior to being butchered, and it is healthy, wholesome and wonderful they continue to donate to us,” said Faulk.
In an unrelated matter, commissioners passed a motion to allow the Hazmat team to have a credit card in the name of Dennis Fenton in the amount of $750.
The reason for this motion is that, usually, the Emergency Management Agency refuels the Hazmat vehicles, but there was a recent occasion when both were called out and the Hazmat team needed gas. This motion is for the off chance this happens again so the Hazmat team could refuel. The EMA will still pay the bill.
The Hazmat team has two vehicles that need to be refueled at times.
