Harrison Women’s Club reemerges with a focus on community and connection
In a bid to foster intellectual and social development while contributing to the welfare of the local community, the Harrison Women’s Club has made a comeback under the leadership of Fawn Boggs and her sister, Autumn Famal. In a recent interview, Boggs shared insights into the club’s goals, membership criteria, and plans for community involvement.
The Harrison Women’s Club is committed to the intellectual and social advancement of its members and endeavors to enhance the general welfare of the community through shared interests. While the club is still formulating an official mission statement, Boggs emphasized the overarching objective of community betterment through individual and collective growth.
There are not specific requirements for joining the club. They welcome women of all ages and walks of life who are residing in Harrison County. The inclusivity of the club is reflected in its open invitation to any woman in the county who wishes to participate.
Prospective members can connect through the Facebook Page, ‘The Harrison Women’s Club’ or by reaching out via email at harrisonwomensclub@gmail.com.
The club existed in another form decades ago, enjoyed by Boggs’ mother who is still close to many friends she made during that participation. Her mother spoke highly of the club for years, which helped her daughters feel it was worth reviving. When asked about the previous dissolution of the club, Boggs acknowledged uncertainty about the reasons behind it. Boggs highlighted a desire to connect with like-minded women and set an example for their children as the driving force behind restarting the club. Their aim is not only to relive the positive experiences their mother had with a similar club but also to instill the importance of community service in the younger generation. Despite neither Boggs nor her sister having experience in running a nonprofit, they expressed confidence in the expertise of other members to guide them through any challenges.
Currently in its initial stages, the club’s first fundraiser involves Superbowl Subs. With a growing membership base, the Harrison Women’s Club aims to actively participate in community events to promote their organization and contribute positively to the community.
Annual dues for club members are set at $40, payable either yearly or quarterly at $10 per quarter. Payments are due in February, May, August, and November.
Regular meetings are scheduled for every third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. The venue for these gatherings is the Jewett Methodist Church, specifically in the basement.
As the Harrison Women’s Club embarks on its renewed journey, it aims to create a supportive community of women, contributing to both personal growth and the betterment of the wider community. For those interested in joining, the doors are open, and the club anticipates making a positive impact in Harrison County.
