The Lady Huskies of Harrison Central broke out of their losing streak Sept.
30, in a consolation matchup against the Magnolia Blue Eagles in New
Martinsville, West Virginia.
Grace Miller opened the Husky scoring early in the game with a penalty kick,
which motivated the team. Magnolia retaliated with its own goal just before the
break.
After a pep talk during intermission, the determined Huskies returned to the
field for the second half. Magnolia also benefited from a penalty kick to start
the half. Harrison Central then found its power when Amelia Puskarich hit the
net to equal the score, giving hope to the Dogs. After some strategic coaching
moves, midfielder Teagan Parks made a steal, passing the ball to senior Emma
Patterson, who sent it to the net to put the Huskies up 3-2.
Coach Mindy Madzia praised the team’s defensive effort and teamwork.
At Red Devil Stadium in St. Clairsville Thursday, however, the Devils
were ready. Coming into the league contest with a 7-5 record, St. Clairsville
had won five of its last six meetings. The Devils struck the Huskies like
lightning, winning 12-1.
Beginning the game with compassion and sportsmanship, St. Clairsville was
given the opportunity to score an unopposed goal out of respect for three
senior players who suffered season-ending injuries. In return, the Devils
allowed Husky senior Hayden Bittinger an unopposed opportunity to score as
well. Bittinger hit the net off an assist from senior Leanna Scott. “It’s all
about sportsmanship,” said Madzia.
On Saturday, Harding Stadium was the setting for the Huskies’ third game of
the week, as they faced the Catholic Central Crusaders. The Crusaders (7-4)
scored four times in the first half and held the Huskies scoreless.
After halftime, Harrison Central’s Parks hit the net early, showing the
Crusaders the Huskies’ determination. However, the Dogs would come up short.
Husky defense held Catholic Central to one goal in the second half, making the
final 5-1.
Harrison Central faced the Edison Wildcats Monday, Oct. 6, in Cadiz.
The Huskies honored their seniors prior to the game. The Wildcats bring a
0-14-1 record to the contest.
