Barnett takes Legion command
Thomas D. Barnett, U.S. Army veteran (1968–1970), age 77, of Mechanicstown, assumed the position of American Legion Tenth District commander July 13, 2025, in Cleveland.
Following the American Legion Tenth District convention in Massillon May 12 and the American Legion Department of Ohio's convention in Cleveland, Barnett assumed command of the Tenth District for a one-year term beginning July 13, 2025.
The American Legion in Ohio is divided into 14 districts. District 10, known as the Tenth District, is comprised of nine counties: Wayne, Holmes, Coshocton, Stark, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Harrison, Columbiana and Jefferson. Within the nine-county Tenth District are 63 American Legion posts representing more than 7,000 members.
Barnett follows a long list of Tenth District past commanders, including the late Robert W. Tasker of Carrollton Post 428, who held command of the Tenth District from 1961 to 1962.
Barnett has been active in the American Legion for more than 35 years and also currently serves on the Carroll County Veterans Service Commission.
