Cadiz CIC completes multiple projects
The Village of Cadiz Community Improvement Committee (CIC) has completed several projects in 2023 aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and fostering economic growth in the area. We welcome the opening of Woodsfield Savings Bank, made possible by the sale of CIC property located on W. Market Street. Our members worked closely with Tracey Craig, President and CEO, to promote Cadiz as an ideal location for their expansion.
One of our most significant projects supported Mark Puskarich with the construction of a new performing arts stage (Mark at The Park) located in Sally Buffalo Park. The grand opening on June 1st brought Neil McCoy to perform at the new venue, with many engagements following. The stage is expected to serve as a hub for Harrison County’s social and recreational activities.
The CIC also purchased the old Family Dollar Store from Networks USA. This 6,000 sq. ft. building is strategically located on property in the middle of town and is the cornerstone of our uptown revitalization plans. In the short term, discussions are underway to repurpose a portion of the structure to support our local community food bank.
A difficult decision involving the Old Bank building had to be made to ensure the safety of our residents. The building on W. Market Street had to be razed. The building had fallen into disrepair a decade ago, and restoration was no longer viable. The limestone façade was salvaged to incorporate into the CIC’s architectural plans for a new structure on the square.
Over the last year, the CIC also completed several property sales. Compton/Addy, a developer from Cincinnati with local ties to Harrison County, purchased land on Lincoln/Commerce streets in front of the existing Tractor Supply store. In a recent conversation with owner Mark Addy, the plan is to construct a Dollar Tree store to enhance retail choices for area residents.
JW Power provides compressors to the oil and gas industry and operates out of a building owned by the CIC in the Industrial Park. They notified the CIC that the existing structure no longer met the demands of their business and growth. Over the last year, conversations led to the sale of 7 acres of land owned by the CIC that JW will be constructing their new facility, keeping the company in Cadiz for years to come. This construction project should be completed in 2024.
Look for upcoming additions to Sally Buffalo Park’s recreational facilities. The CIC contributed funding to the Village for tennis/pickleball courts plus basketball courts.
In addition to these projects, after more than a year of negotiations, the CIC purchased the old Post Office from the U. S. Postal Service. The County Commissioners supported us with grant funds from the State of Ohio to perform environmental remediation and demolition of the structure. The demolition of the building is currently being performed by a local contractor (Kovarik Excavating).
Overall, the projects completed by the Cadiz Community Improvement Committee in 2023 are expected to have a significant positive impact on the village and the surrounding region. Our mission is to support local businesses by promoting strategic growth and development. In doing so, we will continue to improve our citizens’ quality of life.
