Harrison Central Theater fundraiser set for Feb. 24

Published Modified

On Saturday, Feb. 24, Dancing with the Harrison County Stars will take place at the Harrison Central High School theater.

The event is a fundraiser for the theater, hosted by the theater’s parents club, Laura Cope, Tina Ray, and Jenny Sullivan. Anisa Rocchi is the head of production. This type of event had been successful elsewhere, and they wanted to replicate it because it would not only fundraise and promote the theater, but it would also be something that students could participate in, the community could enjoy, and it would be a different fundraiser from ones held in the past.

The event has multiple sponsors from the community, as well as a partnership with Amanda’s Dance Academy for professional dancers. S&W Hair Salon is providing help with hair and make-up for the performers, and Vintage Fitness provided practice in their classrooms. Todd Dunlap, Chad Dawson, and Keith Eddy are providing tech support, and Tricia Richards and Sharon Dalton are providing photography.

There are almost 40 students helping run the event. They will be serving food, helping with ticketing and concession stands, ushering, helping with the VIP section, and running the lights, curtains, cameras, and sound. The students will also be helping with the computer set up for polling, and the costume contest that will also be happening. They will also be providing assistance and hospitality to the performers.

The performers consist of nine couples. Each couple has a Star and a Professional paired together. The couples will be Sophie Cunningham (pro) and Dirk Harkins (star); Lexi Cunningham (pro) and Brandon Ludwig (star); Taylor Cope (pro) and Deb Kenny (star); Bailie Ray (pro) and Aimee Clay (star); Sicily Wade (pro) and Jeremy Yeager (star); Emily Fouts (pro) and Greg Tullis (star); Amanda DeLuca (pro) and Chace Smith (star); Callie Anderson (pro) and Clint Barr (star); and father-daughter duo, Lexi Corder (pro) and Dustin Corder (star).

Drake Watson will be the evening’s master of ceremonies. There will be four judges – Marsha Dodds, Valeni Brown, Melania Birney, and a guest star.

There will be two awards – the People’s Choice Award, and the Mirrorball Trophy. The People’s Choice Award will be run by the students. People may pay for a vote and can vote as many times as they want. The Mirrorball Trophy can only be voted for once by each person and can be accessed through a QR code.

There will be concession stands, a photo booth, and opportunities for the audience to interact with the dancers. People will also be able to buy favors and flowers for the judges and dancers.

The event will open at 6 p.m. for VIP’s and will start at 7 p.m.
