SHERIFF’S OFFICE
10/19 – A driver on Brushy Fork Road in Nottingham Township swerved to avoid a deer and drove off the road, hitting several small trees and a fence. No injuries were reported.
10/21 – A deputy responded to a complaint of damaged property. The man said his mailbox had been destroyed again. He suspected it was due to heavy trucks getting around construction. The deputy took pictures for documentation, and the man stated this was about the third mailbox he had to replace.
10/23 – A woman called the Sheriff’s office to report she believed her ex-husband was violating the protection order against him. She showed threatening text messages that she believed came from him, saying that he was going to hurt her. The woman also wanted a welfare check done on her children, who were staying with her ex. She was concerned about pictures her daughter had sent of their living conditions. The deputy spoke with the local police department, who went to see the ex. The children were not staying with him but were located and found to be safe. The woman received more threatening text messages and will be pursuing charges.
10/25 – A deputy was called to a Carrollton address in response to a stolen piece of equipment. The equipment is used to lift pipes, and the owner said he had seen it the previous Friday. It is now missing and will cost around $3,000 to replace.
10/26 – A deputy on patrol observed a vehicle that appeared to be planning to turn toward him at an intersection. It was obvious the driver had seen the marked patrol car and suddenly went left to avoid passing the deputy. This led the deputy to “think some mischief may be afoot.” As he pulled onto the roadway, he saw the car had picked up speed and disappeared around a curve. When the deputy came around the curve, he discovered the car had crashed. Both occupants extricated themselves from the vehicle and were taken into custody without incident.
A driver on May School Road in Washington Township observed a patrol car, panicked, and accelerated, losing control of their vehicle on a sharp curve. The driver left the roadway on the right, struck a guardrail, over-corrected, and flipped onto its top in the roadway. No serious injuries were reported.
CADIZ POLICE DEPARTMENT
10/23 – An officer responded to the Cadiz Drive Thru on a report that a driver had hit an ice chest. The driver left the scene but had given all relevant information to the manager on duty. The officer contacted the driver and asked him to come to the police department so he could share more information, and the officer could take pictures of his vehicle. The driver said he had “just opened a beer” and didn’t feel comfortable driving anywhere. He was able to come by the department the next day.
10/24 – The department received a call about a possible smoke grenade in front of their building. An officer secured the item and contacted an ATF agent who confirmed with a bomb tech that it was a smoke grenade and was considered an explosive. After calling around to several agencies, the officer was able to speak with someone from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, who said he would send a tech to Cadiz the next day to pick up the explosive.
10/26 – An officer responded to a call about a woman being harassed at her work. A male had called her work multiple times that day, saying that he was going to sue her. The woman stated she’d had previous issues with the male following her around at school and making statements toward her. She had previously had a protection order in place but wished to file a new one. The officer gave her a statement sheet to fill out and return to the department. He was unable to make contact with the male.
