A 33-year-old violent registered sex offender, Larry Hagi, was apprehended Feb. 24 in the village of Minerva by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Hagi is currently being held in the Carroll County Jail on charges of probation violation related to prior sex offenses in the state of Utah.
According to Sgt. Edward Hale of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. marshals tracked Hagi to Minerva, where he was taken into custody. Details surrounding how long he had been in the area were not immediately available.
Minerva Police Chief Larry Gardner said officers were contacted during the department’s midnight shift Feb. 24 to assist U.S. marshals, who were attempting to locate a man wanted out of Utah on a probation violation warrant.
“They were looking for a male subject out of Utah who had a warrant and was living at 1200 Valley Street here in Minerva,” Gardner said. “We went over, made contact with him, confirmed who he was, took him into custody and transported him to the Carroll County Jail.”
Gardner said Hagi was listed by Utah authorities as a sexually violent predator and was wanted on a probation violation related to a sexual assault case. The warrant included full extradition.
Gardner said Hagi was not someone Minerva police had previously dealt with and officers had not received prior calls involving him.
“Apparently the marshals tracked him down to that point,” Gardner said. “Another violent sexual predator that should not have been on the streets in the first place is now back where he belongs.”
Hagi remains in custody at the Carroll County Jail pending further proceedings and is expected to be returned to Utah.
