The Malvern High School choir presented the musical “Brigadoon.” Lead roles included Dave Crowl, Mike Schoeppner, Staci Karcher and Jenny Madden.

Carol Power opened Pizza Den on North High Street in Carrollton.

Lisa Davis and Beth Johnson claimed the co-most valuable player awards as members of Carrollton’s girls basketball team.

30 YEARS AGO From 1996 FPS files

For the first time in several years, Ohio’s primary election included three parties — Democrat, Republican and the new Natural Law parties. Seeking the Democrat nomination for Carroll County commissioner were Larry Garner, Larry Weyandt and Rodney Wise. Republican candidates were Louis Abraham and Doyle Hawk. The five candidates for the Republican nomination for clerk of courts were Kirt Conrad, Richard Griffin, Janet Unkefer, Philip Pavick and Mark Slabaugh.

Barb Poole of Milo Road, Carrollton, was the subject of a feature story on bird “tweeter” love.

CHS speech students Brandon Strawder and Emily Stine qualified as a finalist and semifinalist at the state speech tournament.

The Malvern High School cagers blew by Caldwell 60-45 en route to the Hornets’ first-ever boys basketball district crown.

Dan Ayers and Justyn Mook were inducted as the 101st and 102nd Eagle Scouts of Malvern Boy Scout Troop 155.

The musical “Once Upon a Mattress” was being presented at Conotton Valley High School featuring 16 cast members.

Amber Furbee, a Carrollton High School FFA member, placed first in the FFA District 8 public speaking contest and qualified for the state FFA creed contest.

CHS Warriors receiving special wrestling awards included Terry Snyder, Matt Manfull and Craig Kampfer.

A downturn in oil and gas development was blamed for the second closing of Atwood Lake Lodge.

Representatives of area farms receiving honors during the Carroll County Dairy Promotion Board banquet included Dave Evans, Melissa Kiko and Kevin Tullis.
