Carroll grand jury returns indictments

Arraignment hearings are scheduled for Thursday, March 19, before Carroll County Common Pleas Judge Michael V. Repella II

The Carroll County grand jury returned six indictments involving theft, drug and assault charges during its March 4 session.

Six indictments ranging from theft, drug and assault charges were returned by the Carroll County grand jury during a half-day session March 4.

According to Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney Steven D. Barnett, the grand jury heard testimony from eight witnesses involving six cases, all of which were returned as indictments as follows:

— Savannah R. Myers, 28, of 11309 Bower Road, Minerva, was indicted on one count of theft from a person in a protected class, a third-degree felony, and one count of theft by deception from a person in a protected class.

According to the prosecutor, Myers stole two watches worth more than $7,500 from a Carrollton residence July 25, 2025, and wrote checks to herself totaling about $5,700 from a 92-year-old Carrollton woman while Myers was caring for the woman at her residence.

Carrollton police determined Myers was never employed as the caretaker for the woman but was given access under the guise of being from a caretaker organization, the prosecutor said.

— James D. Carnes, 60, of 5172 Fresno Road NW, Dellroy, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of drug paraphernalia offenses, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

Carroll County sheriff’s deputies found less than three grams of methamphetamine in Carnes’ vehicle following a traffic stop Feb. 14 on Citrus Road north of Malvern. A rolled-up dollar bill used to inhale methamphetamine also was found in the vehicle.

— Richard Simon, 39, of 5010 Johnston Drive SW, Carrollton, was indicted on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, one count of strangulation, a third-degree felony, and one count of domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony.

According to the prosecutor, Simon assaulted a female he lived with by stomping on her head and strangling her during a Feb. 7 domestic dispute at their residence.

— Roger Lee Beckett Jr., 29, of 5781 Dana Road SW, Sherrodsville, was indicted on one count of assault, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor.

Barnett said Beckett punched a Carroll County sheriff’s deputy during his arrest Jan. 30 when deputies went to Beckett’s residence to arrest him on a warrant.

— Andrea M. Eberly, 46, of 401 Union St., Minerva, was indicted on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and one count of domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor. During a Feb. 1 domestic dispute, Eberly used a knife and attempted to stab or slash her husband.

— Jessie D. Spivey, 39, of 234 Brush Road NE, Minerva, was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of drug paraphernalia offenses, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

According to the prosecutor, methamphetamine was found in Spivey’s vehicle after a Feb. 19 K-9 alert during a traffic stop on Valley Street in Minerva. A glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine and a butane lighter also were found in the vehicle, the prosecutor said.

Arraignment hearings for those indicted are scheduled for Thursday, March 19, before Carroll County Common Pleas Judge Michael V. Repella II.
