A 40 year Main Street success

The Class Act Hair Salon has been a mainstay on Main Street in Cadiz for a long time. This week, owner Theresa Gould and Debbie Lloyd celebrated 40 years of business. In 1984, the salon was opened on the corner where the law offices are now; 18 years later, they moved down the street to their current location.

Gould is from Jefferson County but started Class Act in Harrison because the village simply felt like home to her. When she opened, she and Lloyd each had about six years of hair experience. Their first employee was Judy Sproull, who still works at the salon today.

“It’s just unbelievable being in business after 40 years,” Gould said. “We’re probably one of the oldest businesses in the area.”

Class Act participates in the community when they can, doing fundraisers, having 4-H displays in their window, and previously helping with the Blessings in a Backpack program at the school.

The salon employs eight stylists, two nail technicians, and one massage therapist. This ensures a wide variety of services are offered to customers. The salon’s newest stylist has been there for about a year but everyone is capable and trained in whatever a customer needs.

Gould started her own salon after working in one for a while. She said that she wanted to be her own boss. “After you work for somebody, you just want to go out on your own.”

She said that right from the start, business was always good. “People were very nice, very receptive.”

Gould has retired from doing hair but still comes into the shop a couple days a week for the socialization and community involvement. Her favorite services to offer were always cuts and color. She said that seeing a customer happy with a brand new look has always brought her joy.

Residents have continued their support over the last four decades and Gould is thankful to everyone who has kept the salon going. She hopes to continue for many years to come.

To celebrate the 40 year milestone of business, Class Act held an open house where residents could come in and enjoy some refreshments and visit with employees along with Gould and Lloyd. The open house was fun and everyone enjoyed having a chance to see community members come together to support the salon.

Services at Class Act include haircuts and colors, as you would expect, but they also offer things like eyebrow waxing, manicures and pedicures, nails, and brow tattooing.

Class Act’s regular hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call ahead to make an appointment, 740-942-2700.
