Surveyor David Bodo highlights LiDAR technology at Carrollton Rotary meeting
Presentation explored 3D mapping applications from local surveying to archaeological research on prehistoric sites
David Bodo of David Bodo and Associates Inc. was the guest speaker at the Sept. 16 meeting of the Carrollton Rotary Club.
Bodo’s presentation focused on the use of LiDAR technology in surveying, mapping and creating 3D imaging of terrain, as well as natural and man-made structures such as the interiors of caves and caverns. He explained how the technology is used in his surveying business and how he is also applying it to archaeological research.
In recent years, Bodo has been involved in mapping prehistoric pathways of humans and other megafauna at sites in Texas and South Dakota. The South Dakota site is an active paleontological excavation enclosing a prehistoric sinkhole that contains the remains of 61 mammoths. It was featured in a recent issue of BOLDER magazine.
