New faces join village councils as Carroll County voters shake up local leadership
Carrollton elects newcomer Kevin Butterfield with top vote count; Malvern faces recount, and Minerva, Salineville and other area villages welcome new members following the Nov. 4 general election.

Carrollton Village Council will have a new member beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
Kevin Butterfield, a newcomer, not only won a council seat in the Nov. 4 general election, but he also received the most votes of the five candidates seeking four new four-year terms.
According to unofficial results, Butterfield tallied 333 votes. Travis L. Parker came in second with 288, followed by Brittany Nicole Tangler with 255, Wilma L. Lambert with 197 and Thomas R. White with 160.
Malvern Council

A recount of votes is likely involving two candidates for Malvern Village Council.
The official recount was to be verified by the Carroll County Board of Elections on Thursday involving Barbara Burgess, an incumbent who received 105 votes, and Craig DeLong, who tallied 104.
The automatic recount occurs under state law when there is one-half of one percent difference in the total votes cast by all candidates seeking the council’s four seats.
The three other council candidates and their vote totals were Marci Hubbard, 147; Michael McCort, 135; and Tom Holmes, 131 — all incumbents.
Minerva Council
With two seats to fill, there will be two new members on Minerva Village Council as a result of Tuesday’s election.
Alex Gotschall, a newcomer, tallied 368 unofficial votes in the three counties of Carroll, Stark and Columbiana, while Aaron Stoffer, also a newcomer, garnered 325, defeating Christine M. Coe, a newcomer with 249 votes, and Jennifer L. Jordan, an incumbent with 138.
Bob Harris will return as an incumbent after winning the unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2027, with a total of 460 votes from the three counties.
Minerva Mayor
Mason J. Boldizar was re-elected Minerva mayor after polling 526 unofficial votes, including 210 in Carroll, 313 in Stark and three in Columbiana counties.
Leesville Village Council
(Four to elect)
The four incumbents were returned to Leesville Village Council. Following are the unofficial votes each received Nov. 4: Bruce Palmer, 19; Heather Jo Enos and Carl Palmer, 18 each; and Mikah R. Sullivan, 14.
Amsterdam Council
(Four to elect)
Randall E. Grimes, 33 votes; Teresa A. Black, 31; Michael Keith Gump, 24.
Bergholz Council
(Four to elect)
Theodore J. Balint II, 52 votes; Ronald Gower, 73; Ruth Ann Kirkman, 55; Michael J. Smyth, 61.
Magnolia Village Council
(four to elect)
Claudia C. Rogers was the lone candidate for the four seats to be filled on Magnolia Village Council. Rogers received 179 unofficial votes in Carroll and Stark counties. No petitions were filed for the remaining three seats.
Salineville Village Council
(Four to elect)
Two new members were elected to Salineville Village Council Nov. 4.
They included Ryan Smith, who received 152 votes, and Teddy Mitchell, 87.
Re-elected incumbents were John Higgins and Pam Tedeschi, who received 134 and 103 votes, respectively. The two other candidates, both incumbents, were Nancy Needham, 85 votes, and John Vennum, 57.
Waynesburg Council
Jeremy Dierick, 111 votes; Randal Park Welker, 111; Dwayne L. Knight, 99; Tasha Starcher, 85.
