Mohawk Trail Garden Club tours Reeves Victorian Home, plans holiday display
Members visited the Reeves Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum in Dover, then set plans for a Holly Pine Lane tree and invited new gardeners to join.
The Mohawk Trail Garden Club traveled to Dover Oct. 15 to tour the Reeves Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum. In 1900, Jeremiah E. Reeves, a Dover industrialist and banker, remodeled a 19th-century farmhouse into an elegant mansion for his family. The mansion’s 17 rooms have been carefully restored and contain nearly all the original Reeves family furnishings.
Located behind the home, the Carriage House is predominantly Queen Anne in style. Treasures inside include a Rauch and Lang electric car, the family’s 1892 carriage, a sleigh and an orchestral Regina music box.
Club members then went to Hog Heaven in Dover for lunch and their meeting. Plans were discussed for Holly Pine Lane at the Canton Garden Center, Nov. 20–23. The free event includes decorated trees, Santa visits and children’s activities. At the club’s Nov. 18 meeting, members will decorate their tree.
The club welcomes new members interested in gardening, horticulture, birds, conservation and lasting friendships. For more information, contact Carol Davidson at 330-863-2860.
