The Minerva Area Historical Society will hold its annual dinner banquet and officer election for the 2026 term Monday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Minerva Senior Citizens Banquet Room, 1200 Valley St., Minerva.

The dinner menu includes Swiss steak, vegetarian lasagna, salad and dessert. The cost is $20 per person, payable at the door. Reservations are requested by Nov. 20 and may be made by texting or calling Shirley Fox at 330-205-9480.

Following the election and a short meeting, the evening’s program will feature Larry Carver, retired Minerva school resource officer and patrolman. Carver will present a program on Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon faith, and his connection to settlers from the East Rochester and West Township areas in the 1830s. His talk will include stories about the Wooley families and other pioneers who later became leaders in the Latter-day Saints movement.

The Historical Society will also host its End-of-the-Year Fundraiser Friday, Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. at the Roxy Theatre in Minerva. The event will feature live music from the Alliance Symphony Orchestra Big Band. Tickets are $10 and available at the door or from Historical Society volunteers and officers.

Sponsorships of $100 are available for businesses and individuals. Sponsors will be acknowledged in the event brochure and on display at the theater. Light refreshments will be available by donation.

The Minerva Area Historical Society continues its mission to preserve and promote the history of Minerva and surrounding communities. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, the society is planning a special museum exhibit next summer highlighting local businesses and organizations that make the community a vibrant place to live and work.

Membership in the Historical Society is $15 per year, and new members are welcome to join.
