60 YEARS AGO 

From 1965 FPS Files 

The senior class at Carrollton High School presented the play “The Miracle Worker.” 

Edna Shotwell, a Carrollton High School senior, and Walter McNutt, a Malvern High School student, were winners of the Carroll County Prince of Peace declamation contest. 

Oaklawn Lass, a 4-year-old bay mare owned by Carl Maple of Carrollton, set a new record in a race at The Meadows in Washington, Pennsylvania. 

50 YEARS AGO 

From 1975 FPS Files 

The tie for the second seat on the Sherrodsville Village Council in the Nov. 4 election was decided by the Carroll County Board of Elections with a coin flip. Dennis P. Newell won the toss. 

The musical “Carousel” was presented at Carrollton High School with lead roles by Vicki Weir and Rick Burns. 

Warrior sophomore fullback Mark McConnaughy led Carrollton’s rushing effort during the 1975 football season. 

40 YEARS AGO

Members of the Dellroy Ruritan Club planted 37 trees throughout Dellroy. 

American Legion Post 428 of Carrollton won two national American Legion awards for outstanding community service and achievement in programs for children and youth. 

Fred Boggs was installed as worshipful master of Carroll Lodge No. 124, Free and Accepted Masons. 

Carrollton High School gridmen who received State Senate League awards included Corey Harper, Kevin Butterfield, Jim Shepherd, Chad Wells, Jeff Carpenter, Geoff Warner, Eric Smith, Mark Howell, Ian Peterman and Tim Bright. 

30 YEARS AGO

Ten longtime Carroll County veterans were honored at the annual Veterans Day dinner at the VFW Post Home. The 50-year members included Edward L. Cavitt, Haskell Kempthorne, Ed Long, Lee McElroy, Henry Myers, Ronald Davis, Charles Nichols, Ray Locker, Tom Richards and Robert W. Tasker. 

Construction of a new building to house Malvern’s street department equipment was discussed at the Malvern Council meeting. 

Members of the Lady Warriors cross country team who received awards for the 1995 season included Michelle Meredith, Susie Kampfer, Valerie White, Tori Daugherty and Nicky Hein. 

20 YEARS AGO

Three new Carrollton council members were elected: John Yeager, Bob Dunlap and Gary Minor, who joined incumbent Lorrie Kaltenbaugh. 

Carrollton physician Dr. Mandal Haas was the guest speaker at Carrollton’s annual Veterans Day service. 

Four Carrollton High School football players earning first-team honors in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference selections included Corey Leggett, Matt Spears, Zach Pridemore and Drew DeSimone. 

10 YEARS AGO

Carrollton Board of Education members gave the green light for construction of a new high school building for grades nine through 12. 

The 17th annual Coley's Stag Reunion was scheduled for Nov. 27 at its home on Canton Road to celebrate the end of Prohibition. 

The Sandy Valley Cardinals defeated the East Palestine Bulldogs 28–14 in the Division V regional quarterfinals to advance in the football playoffs.
