Carrollton teams battle through busy week of tournaments and league play
Warriors see highs and lows across golf, cross country, volleyball and soccer competitions

Girls Golf
The Lady Warriors competed Sept. 22 as the Div. I East District Sectional Tournament, hosted by Eagle Sticks Golf Club, and placed fifth, failing to advance as a team to districts by 11 strokes. However, Carrollton will be represented at the district tourney by senior Kaylee Russell, who carded an 85, good for seventh place individually.
Carrollton finished with a team score of 380 and in addition to Russell, senior Jada Moore posted an 88, junior Kali Stutler shot 101, and senior Ruby Moore posted a 106.
Boys Golf
Carrollton’s boys were also in action at the Div. I East District Sectional Tournament, held at Eagle Sticks Golf Club Sept. 24. Like the Lady Warriors, the boys also placed fifth, and failed to advance as a team to district play.
Carrollton finished with a team score of 353 and was paced by junior Michael Mullen, whose 85 was the 11th best score of the day. Senior Nevan Woods was right behind Mullen with an 86, while sophomores Colten Rummell and Parker Roudebush posted an 89 and a 93, respectively.
Cross Country
Carrollton participated in the Charlie Fondale Memorial Cambridge Invitational, hosted by Cambridge High School Sept, 27. In a large field of 21 schools, the Carrollton’s boys finished fifth overall with 193 points. Dover claimed the boys’ team title with 72.
John Childs led the Warriors with a 15th-place showing in 18:09.80. He was followed by Carson Murphy, who placed 34th, Landyn Wade-Perkins in 51st, Andrew Childs in 57th, and Andrew Husk in 68th.
For the girls, Carrollton placed sixth out of 14 teams with 148 points. Tusky Valley won the team title with a score of 40. Gabi McCort paced the Warriors, finishing 21st in 22:02.40. Joining her were Ella Barkan (32nd), Olivia McCort (43rd), Heather Allbritain (51st), and Norah Kerr-Jung (59th).
Volleyball
The week began well for Carrollton as the Lady Warriors visited Tusky Valley Sept. 22 for a nonconference match and left with a thrilling 3-2 victory (25-12, 25-16, 16-25, 25-27, 15-7).
Haley Thomas led in both serving, with 17 points and two aces, and kills with 12. Juliaunna Miller grabbed 29 digs on defense and Emma Shafer dished out 20 assists.
EBC foe West Branch visited Carrollton the next day and the battle of the Warriors went to West Branch 3-1 (26-24, 25-11, 14-25, 25-23).Miller was again defensive leader with 20 digs while also serving for 12 points and two aces. Ivy Bishop had four blocks, Haley Leslie delivered 10 kills, and Rhemee Beadnell passed out 16 assists.
The Lady Warriors finished their week Sept, 25 by hosting EBC rival Minerva. The two teams split the first two sets, but Minerva took over from there to record a 3-1 win (25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15).
Leslie was top blocker with six and also led Carrollton in kills with 13. Thomas served for 12 points and two aces, Shafer notched 20 assists, and Miller came up with 32 digs for Carrollton (9-10, 4-6).
Girls Soccer
Carrollton visited Tusky Valley Sept. 22 for a nonconference match. The Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 first half lead and never looked back in a 6-2 victory. After Tusky Valley’s Madelin Benner scored her fourth goal of the match in the second half for a 5-0 lead, Maria Nuzzolillo – on an assist from Isabella Nuzzolillo – put the Warriors on the board with 19:51 left in the contest.
Carrollton scored again with a little more than two minutes remaining as Chelsea Pesta scored on a penalty kick. Gianna James recorded 16 saves for Carrollton.
On Sept, 25, Carrollton (3-7-1, 0-4-1) hosted West Branch for an EBC match and lost 6-0. No details have been made available at this time.
Boys Soccer
The Warriors played two matches during the past week, the first being an EBC duel at West Branch Sept. 23. West Branch jumped out to a 4-0 first-half lead and then cruised to a 6-1 win. Rylan Barack nabbed 13 saves while manning the goal, and Hector Borjas scored on an assist from Dominic Shockey.
Two days later, Carrollton visited Sandy Valley for a nonconference match. The Warriors fell behind 3-0 in the first half en route to a 7-0 loss. Barack collected seven saves for Carrollton (2-12, 0-4).
