The Bowerston Community Women’s Club focused on upcoming community events during its Sept. 17 meeting. Debbie Carrothers reported that 40 veterans banners have been purchased, while Mayor Paula Beamer said brackets for the banners are being installed. The banners will be hung before Veterans Day and remain until holiday decorations are put up.
Treasurer Kim Willoughby presented a financial report and reminded members that annual dues of $20 may be paid at any time.
Plans were finalized for the soup and sandwich luncheon, set for Sunday, Sept. 28, at Trinity Church. A variety of soups, sandwiches and desserts will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a freewill offering.
Beamer reported that village council approved the closure of Main Street for the first annual trunk or treat event Friday, Oct. 31. Council President Juliet Bryant outlined the details: Main Street will close at 5 p.m. for vehicles to set up, with trunk or treat scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The fire department will serve hot dogs and snacks, and a family-friendly movie will be shown at 7 p.m. on a 35-foot screen. The Women’s Club will sponsor a people’s choice contest for best decorated trunk or display, with the winner receiving a $25 gift card. Participation is open to everyone, with no prior registration required.
The group also discussed the possible return of Christmas in the Park, which was discontinued during COVID-19 and has not resumed. Saturday, Dec. 6, was tentatively set as the date. Beamer noted many decorations stored in the community building were ruined in a flood. Members agreed to research what is needed to bring the event back for local children, with details to be announced later.
The next regular meeting of the Bowerston Community Women’s Club will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the basement of Trinity Church.
